Progress Update: October 2026

Last October, we shared that we were preparing our bear canister for IGBC certification in the spring of 2026. That spring has come and gone, so we owe you an update.

What Changed

Over the past year, we completely overhauled our original 2025 design. The biggest changes were to the lid, including a ground-up redesign of the locking mechanism. The new lid presented design challenges that made it harder to hit our core goal: tool-free entry that’s simple for you and difficult for bears. After many nights and weekends spent brainstorming and working through options, we landed on a solution we’re really excited about. It not only achieves our original goal but also improves the canister in a way we struggled with on the 2025 model.

That work put us behind the timeline we shared last year. We sincerely apologize, but we’d rather take the extra time and get it right 🙂.

What’s Next

We’re still in research and development mode, fine-tuning the new design, and we’re really happy with where the product is. IGBC bear testing pauses over the winter, so we’re aiming to submit for certification in the spring of 2027. We’ll use the winter for internal testing and to work with our manufacturer to ensure we’re ready when testing reopens.

If all goes well, we’ll release the first images of our product soon after!

We’ll share updates here and on Instagram when we can. Until then, we’re heads down in engineering mode, working to make carrying a bear canister enjoyable from day one of your trip.
